OVERHEARD BY ADRWMIQ
Since I was 17 years old, my favorite hobby has been stealing. Not from the mall, or from my job, or from my parent’s wallets – but from other people’s mouths. For years, I’ve been collecting quotes overheard from friends, family, acquaintances, and strangers.
As a writer, I often incorporate these quotes into my scripts, but they have served me a far greater purpose beyond that: From solving my writer’s block, to remembering old jokes, from learning new facts, to having an endless supply of conversation starters, and an archive of good memories. These quotes have brought me immense whimsy and joy not only as an artist, but as a human.
Good artists borrow. Great artists steal. And I want to share my treasured riches with the world.

Since the summer I graduated high school in 2018 I’ve kept a running notes list of quirky, absurd, rude, and sometimes heartwarming quotes I’ve overheard. As a writer, I often refer to this notes list for inspiration and usually incorporate them into some scripts.
Cut to almost ten years later…. I’ve focused on a corporate career and theatrical producing to provide a much needed platform for new and emerging artists in Philly. I honestly haven’t written much in a hot sec… so these quotes haven’t been put to good enough use. Plus, there’s quite literally too many to keep track of at this point. In the habit of constant creativity, I figure, why not find a way to share these tidbits of joy in another way?

Well over 500 collected in almost eight years now. They come from friends, family, coworkers, friends of friends, customers, strangers in bars, clubs, the bus, waiting rooms, faces you’ll never see again passing by on the sidewalk: nobody is safe.

It’s a passion project. It’s a treasure trove that’s lasted nearly as long as I’ve lived in Philadelphia; it’s a living time capsule for living your twenties in the twenty twenties.
It’s also an art project in a way. In a world of AI and generated content, we’re constantly questioning what is artificial or authentic. I want to showcase real people and real words through real writing.
